Newport pier is the place to be for all things fish. This Oregon coastal city is home to the original Rogue Ale Brewing, Oregon Aquarium, Ripley's Believe it or Not, Oregon State's Hatfield Science Center and of course cannery row fishery docks. The Newport Pier is a great spot for river views, going deep sea fishing and general touristing. The pier is lined with tourist shops and attractions.
First stop on the Newport Pier Adventure was to find some coffee. Surf Town Coffee was a great little coffee shop on the pier. I got coffee and walked along the pier while i waited for the rest of the shops to open. I ran into some crab fisherman along the dock and got to actually haul up my first crab! Crab fishing entails setting out basket traps with bait in them over the dock and after a few hours or over night you pull the baskets up and see if you caught any crabs. The crabs have to be a certain size to be able to keep them. Mine was too small so I had to throw him back, which was fine by me, But, not before I got a photo of the little guy.
After my spontaneous crab fishing adventure I proceeded to check out some other attractions along the pier. This involved Ripley's Believe it or Not, The Wax Museum and the Underwater Botanical Garden.
After checking out some of the attractions on the pier I headed to grab some lunch at Rogue Brewing before heading down for an afternoon spent by the beach.
