On a recent trip to Newport, Oregon I stopped into the Oregon Aquarium. I had never been to the Oregon Aquarium before but had always heard good things about it. I was not disappointed.
The aquarium had a featured exhibit about finding ship wrecks that was fascinating! It was very interactive and allowed for visitors to see how archeologist discover and uncover ship wrecks. There's a large amount of work that goes into planning out the dives and cataloging the wreck. More so, then i would have ever thought.
From there I went to the Tide Pools and got to touch some of the animals that live within the tide pools. Sea Anemones, sea cucumbers and sea stars.
After the Tide Pools I visited the outdoor area that housed the sea lions, sea otters, octopus and the birds who live along the ocean. This was a fairly warm day so the sea lions where sun bathing and the octopus was hiding behind the rock in his enclosure. One cool thing about octopus is that they have 3 hearts!
From there was the tunnels that provided an underwater experience. As you walked through the tunnels you could see trout, sharks and other fishes all around you. The tunnels allow you to see the fishes below you through glass on the floor, and above you from the arched walkway. It was so cool to see sharks and stingrays swimming above you.
